Why did my child get a runny nose even after getting the flu shot?

يُعتقد أحيانًا أن الإصابة بسيلان الأنف بعد الحصول على لقاح الأنفلونزا يعني أن لقاح الأنفلونزا لم ينجح. لكن هذا اعتقاد خاطئ. لقاح فيروس الأنفلونزا لا يمنحك الفيروس الحقيقي المسبب للمرض بالكامل. قد يكون لجسم أطفالنا استجابة قصيرة تبدو وكأنهم يمرضون أثناء تطوير استجابة الجهاز المناعي للقاح. هناك أيضاً العديد من أنواع العدوى الفيروسية الأخرى التي لا تُعد الإنفلونزا والتي يمكن أن يصاب بها طفلك بدلاً من الإنفلونزا والتي قد تبدو مشابهة في الأعراض – والكثير من هذه العدوات تكون أقل تأثيراً. 

It is sometimes believed that getting a runny nose after getting the flu shot means that the flu shot did not work. However, that is a false belief. The influenza virus vaccine does not give you the real, full illness-causing virus. Our child’s body may have a short response that appears like we are getting ill while developing the immune system response to the vaccine. There are also many other viral infections that are not the flu that your child could have instead that may look similar in symptoms to the influenza virus – many of these are milder in impact.
