Dr. Ghaidaa Arbash is a fully trained pediatrician from Syria currently working in medical, and social research on top of her role where she provides social support to newcomers and refugees. She also provides healthcare advocacy through many organizations in Toronto. Dr. Ghaidaa offers support to women and children on social media, specifically, Facebook. She was recognized by the United Way and the City of Toronto as a “frontline hero” during COVID 19 pandemic. Dr. Ghaidaa happily joined the Arabic Kids’ Health team because she believes that healthcare workers have an important role in enhancing awareness and in spreading evidence-based medical information through social media.

Assel Al-Bayati is a Research Coordinator who will be contributing to the Arabic Kids’ Health Channel. She recently completed her Master’s degree in Psychology and hopes to integrate her education, along with her experience as a child of immigrants to help inform families on important kids’ health topics.

Dr. Mohamed Eltorki earned his MD from the University of Alexandria, Egypt in 2007 and completed his rotating postgraduate internship with the Alexandria University Hospital Network. Upon relocating to Canada in 2009, he spent a year focusing on gastroenteritis research at the Hospital for Sick Children Emergency Department. In 2010, he began his pediatric residency training at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. In 2013, he headed west to Calgary for his subspecialty training in pediatric emergency medicine at Alberta Children’s Hospital and the University of Calgary. He joined the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at McMaster University in 2015 and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2019. Dr. Eltorki has contributed to many research initiatives since the start of his career, including studies investigating practice pattern variation, emergency medicine research ethics, constipation, laundry detergent exposure, and a large-scale quality improvement study following an E. Coli outbreak in Alberta. Currently, Dr. Eltorki is primary investigator for two studies on pain and suspected appendicitis as well as a study on asymptomatic COVID-19 transmission. He is co-investigator for two studies on child and adolescent mental health, and site investigator for a study on nasal suctioning and bronchiolitis.

Dr. Banihani is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Paediatrics in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She is a Neonatologist and Developmental Paediatrician in the Division of newborn and developmental paediatric at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre (SHCS), providing clinical care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Neonatal Follow-up clinic. Dr. Banihani is the medical director of the Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic at (SHCS). She is one of the few paediatricians in North America to have completed this combined sub-specialty training. Dr. Banihani has had a long-standing interest clinically and academically in understanding, evaluating, and early identification of neurodevelopment and early learning challenges in NICU graduates and children with brain injuries, brain malformations and genetic syndromes identified in the neonatal period. She works closely with schools, preschools, and other agencies involved with medical and developmental care to ensure they understand the needs of these unique children and their families. Dr. Banihani is excited to be part of this amazing team to provide evidence-based medical/developmental information to our community in their language and allow our community to ask questions and present topics unique to our Arabic-speaking community.

Dr. Fahed Aljaser completed his Pediatric Residency training followed by a Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship at the hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Currently he is back to his home town, Kuwait as a staff Endocrinologist at Alamiri Hospital. He takes care of many children and adolescents with Diabetes and Endocrine related disorders. He is very excited to be part of this team and he believes that as the social media era is exploding with information, it is our job as health advocates to provide the right information to our community and the best way is to provide it in their own language so it serves the purpose.
